What is profit? A shareholder would say dividend. A consumer would say more spending space and increasing purchasing power. A classical economist would say economic growth. But what place does biodiversity get in the annual figures? And under which heading does global warming fall?

Societal challenges such as climate change, loss of diversity and geopolitical tensions mean that more is required than just financial gain. Classical economic growth makes way for other values. Such as people,
planet and prosperity.

This requires a new way of thinking: Integrated Thinking. Integrated Thinking broadens economic values. That also requires a new way of training for business and accountant students.

Educating future proof financial professionals to help SMEs in their sustainability transition.

The INTEGRES project aims to close the gap in knowledge and skills related to accounting and reporting on non-financial information in Higher Education Institutions. This is necessary to be able to comprehend, measure and manage broad value creation in an organization. Both strategically and politically. Within the lectorate, accountancy and financial students are trained within a broadening of those values. The main objective is to develop educational material for bachelor and master business and accounting students. This concerns Business Administration, Commercial Economics and Marketing. We face a major challenge. The people we train must eventually do it.

The INTEGRES Project brings together a team of 5 universities representing 5 different European countries. Every university will bring their own knowledge and skills as an expertise in this project. AVANS University of Applied Sciences Breda (The Netherlands) contributes its expertise on Sustainability in Business and Integrated Reporting to the project. University College Ghent, HOGENT (Belgium) provides its expertise on Sustainable Business Models and international cooperation. The University of Bologna offers its expertise on Human Capital, SMEs and the creation of Open Educational Resources (MOOCs). Université Catholique de Lille (France) will contribute its expertise on Sustainability, Human Capital and IR. And the last university: Technological University Dublin (Ireland) brings to the project its expertise on Key Performance Indicators regarding IR in SMEs. There is also an Advisory Board, that includes two participants: professor International Business Anna Sabadussi and professor Financial Control Koos Wagensveld.
